💔 Save the Imaan of Our Children — Before It's Too Late
A wake-up call for Muslim families in the West: real data on how many generations kept their faith — and what we can do, starting today, to raise children who stay firm in their Imaan.
A survey of 5,000 Muslim families in the West uncovered a sobering pattern: with each passing generation, more descendants drift away from Islam. The numbers are hard to read — but they are exactly why Al-Azhar Islamic Academy exists, and why the work of Islamic education matters more today than ever.
📊 The Numbers Behind the Warning
- 95% of descendants lost Islam after 100 years (families who migrated in 1923 or earlier)
- 75% lost Islam after 80 years
- 40% lost Islam after 60 years
- 25% of grandchildren lost Islam after just 40 years
💔 Real Families, Real Stories
A sheikh who migrated to Ecuador built the very first mosque in his community — yet none of his grandchildren are Muslim today.
In the family of Sheikh Ali Al-Tantawi, 1 in every 3 of his 48 grandchildren left Islam.
The Ramadan family of Beirut had 98 grandchildren. Today, all of them are non-Muslim.
These outcomes are disturbing — but they are also eye-opening. They show us clearly that faith is not automatically inherited. It has to be nurtured, taught, and lived, generation after generation.
🌱 The Tools We Have Today
Unlike the generations before us, we are not starting from nothing. Alhamdulillah, today's Muslim families have access to Islamic centers, Islamic schools, and online Islamic content and platforms. Better tools mean better outcomes — but only if we use them.
🕌 What Must We Do?
Build More Islamic Institutions
Every neighborhood needs access to Islamic education. More schools mean more guidance, and more guidance means a stronger identity for the next generation.
Parents Must Lead by Example
Practicing Islam at home and guiding children early is the foundation no school can fully replace. Faith starts at home.
You may not be asked tomorrow why entire generations strayed from their faith — but you will be asked what you did today, to the best of your ability, for the generation in front of you. Do your part, and trust Allah with the rest.
Let's raise a generation where 100% of our children stay strong in their Imaan — not just 5%. Together, through Islamic education, strong community, and consistent practice at home, we can build a legacy of unwavering faith.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Any slave whom Allah puts in charge of subjects, and he dies while being dishonest to them, Allah will forbid Paradise for him." — Sahih Muslim
